How to apply for a Sira service

From Concept to Compliance

The first step in any compliance project is to obtain a quotation from Sira. This will be our contract of work, and has all the information on it that you need to kick-start a compliance programme.

Before we can provide you with a detailed quote however, we need some information from you. We get this by asking you to fill out a request for quotation form (also called the application form). Once this is filled in, and sent back with general information regarding your product/plant/process (i.e. descriptions, drawings and datasheets) we can start the quotation process.

Sira can offer fixed price quotations so you know how much the project will cost from the outset.

Free 2-hour project meeting

If you are looking to go down the certification route, Sira offers the facility of a free 2-hour meeting at the Sira offices in Chester or Bakewell, for new Ex certification projects. This is an ideal opportunity to meet with a certification engineer to discuss your project, learn about the certification process and identify any potential pitfalls prior to any approval work taking place.

To arrange a meeting, please contact Sira

The Application forms

Below is a brief guide about how to fill in the application form correctly.

As we have different services, we have different application forms, so we have broken it down into service sections.

Product Certification

Product Vertification Form Link

This is our generic form and has all our product certification services on it. Use this form if you are applying for:

  • ATEX Product Approval (including upgrading non-ATEX certificates to ATEX)
  • A variation to an existing ATEX certified product
  • Unit Verification
  • Technical File Storage
  • International Approvals (e.g. FM approval)
  • IECEx Approval
  • Certification advice & support services
  • On-site support
  • Miscellaneous Testing

To download the application form please right-click the image
and then click 'save target as' to save as a Microsoft Word file.

In section 2, please tick whether you want a budgetary quotation (a rough figure for your budgetary purposes only) or fixed price quotation, and give us an idea of when you are likely to go ahead with the project and ideal completion dates in section 3 (this enables us to plan future schedules of work).

Sections 4 & 5 are important for product certification. We need as much information as possible on the protection concepts, zones and marking requirements that you want your equipment to be certified to.

If you are not sure, please see the protection concepts section of our website, or contact Sira directly

You can also attend one of our training courses for a full explanation of hazardous area issues. For more information please click here

Section 7 is all about Quality Issues. Depending on your requirements and type of product, periodic quality surveillance may or may not apply. Therefore, we need to know what you have in place, and what you still need to be fully compliant. For example, if you haven’t got an ATEX QAN when applying for ATEX product certification, then we need to know so we can advise you on your QAN requirements, and offer a quotation for that aspect of work. For more information relating to Quality Assurance, please click here

Section 8 gives you a list of documents that should be sent in with the application form. Our quotes are only as accurate as the information we receive, so the more you can send to us from this list, the more accurate your quotation will be.

You will also need to sign and date the form in the relevant space.

If there is not enough space on the form to write all you need to, please use another sheet of paper and send this in with the form.

Minor Variation Application Form link‘Minor Variation’ Applications

Designed for holders of product certificates, this form can be used if you need to make:

  • Minor changes to your product, which you feel do not require substantial reassessment and testing by Sira

To download the application form please right-click the image
and then click 'save target as' to save as a Microsoft Word file.

Minor variations carry a standard flat-rate fee, and an average project duration of 2 weeks. An example of a minor variation would be to update certification drawings, or make changes to the product label.

When you submit this form, a Sira certification engineer will review it and decide whether the work can indeed be undertaken for the flat-rate fee and timescale. If it can, we will progress with the work, taking this form as your acceptance to pay the flat-rate fee.

If not, and substantial assessment/testing is required, we will issue a formal fixed price quotation with the relevant terms and conditions, prices and timescales.
